Printing and its Different Types

No matter how advanced technologies have become these days, printing still forms a crucial part of the business activities. Well, how important a role it plays depends on the nature of the business. For businesses that rely heavily on printing for their advertising, operational, and promotional goals, it is no less than a business necessity. You might have heard about the different types of printing such as digital printing, screen printing, and laser printing, but you must as well know their application. They all have a unique role to play, for example, laser printers in offices or at home whereas, for leaflets, booklets, or even flyers for marketing and business growth, generally offset printing is used. Not everyone is familiar with these terms and their significance, but after reading this blog, you would know which type of printing will benefit you.

So, when we talk about printing in the business environment, there are usually three main types of printing. Let’s explore further!

Offset printing

Offset printing is one of the most common printing techniques. Used in combination with the lithographic process where the repulsion of oil and water takes place simultaneously, the offset technique always employs a flat image carrier. Offset printing is considered one of the best types for large volume printing requirements. There are a lot of sub-processes that go in before the actual print starts, such as installing plates and injecting ink. Therefore, it isn’t cost-effective for smaller printing requirements because of the time and costs it takes to set up. But, for significantly large volumes of printing needs, offset is the best printing type. That's why many enterprises always prefer offset printing for leaflets, pamphlets, or other commercial printing.

Digital printing

Digital printing is a type in which printing is done from a digital-based image and then directly to the medium. It is beneficial for small-run jobs such as desktop publishing and other business requirements. The printing companies use powdered toners instead of the traditional method of inks, and large-format or high-volume laser or even inkjet printers. With the digital printing process, your artwork goes directly from the source to print. Since there is hardly any setup cost, it is used for any less quantity, unlike offset, which is efficient for large volume printing. Digital printing is best for customized or personalized marketing.

Screen printing

Screen printing is a type of printing process in which a mesh is used to transfer the ink into a substrate, except in areas made impermeable by a blocking stencil. It is generally used on fabrics, glass, wood, signage, etc. Screen printing is probably the oldest method of printing. It's best suited for those looking for a large quantity of promotional product printing in Chicago or around the region.

These are the most commonly used types of printing in businesses. Before you choose a company for your printing needs, it is advisable to get feedback about their services and prices.
